PIROGOV LITTLE HEROES
Little Heroes is a philanthropic initiative of America for Bulgaria Foundation aimed at transforming the children's clinics in Pirogov Emergency Hospital into a pleasant, welcoming environment for children and their families. The project is an important addition to the overall reconstruction of the Pediatric Surgery and Traumatology ward undertaken by Pirogov and funded by the state.
Pirogov is the largest hospital for emergency care in Bulgaria and has been a leading medical institution for decades. Hundreds of thousands of children pass through its doors and spend time in the hospital rooms. Patients, especially young ones, often feel unsure and frightened. The physical environment can mitigate this and contribute to a faster recovery. The purpose of "Little Heroes" is to create a pleasant, welcoming and soothing environment for everyone - from little patients and their parents to doctors and medical workers.
The idea was inspired by the success of the Children's Science Center "Muzeiko,” another project of America for Bulgaria Foundation (www.muzieko.bg). Little Heroes uses resources similar to Muzeiko's to engage a child's imagination through colorful, content-rich wall paintings, including elements of the environment, art, and children's stories. There is also special children's furniture, models, toys, books and accessories suitable for children and digital interactive games with a new graphic identity.
Little Heroes extends over the three floors of the children's clinics in Pirogov with the “Heroes of the Seven Seas” (on the ground floor); “Heroes of Children's Fairy Tales” (second floor), “Superheroes of our Everyday Life” (third floor), and a new playground in the yard of the hospital.
Children are fascinated by fabulous characters because they fight villains, embark on spectacular adventures, and show courage in places and situations we can only imagine.
The characters are role models - they inspire children, raise their self-esteem, and make them feel stronger - nurturing a sense of control over their environment. This is particularly important when a child is seriously ill and needs to be hospitalized. He or she is in an unfamiliar and sometimes frightening environment, filled with many unknowns. Instead of feeling small and helpless, embarrassed and fearful, the 'little hero' conquers the imagination and helps the child find strength and confidence.
Through “Little Heroes”, children can develop their own perception of good, strength, and true value in life. Heroes always over more than what is normally required in everyday life. Heroes persist and never give up. They do not stop fighting and overcome the obstacles in their way.
Little Heroes unites the efforts of businesses, non-governmental organizations, media and individual donors for the children of Bulgaria. The big heroes of "Little Heroes" are the hospital directors, doctors, nurses and orderlies of Pirogov Emergency Hospital as well as all the companies and individual donors who have invested money and effort to transform the children's wards of Pirogov, ensuring a pleasant and comforting environment for children and their families:
